An Opole court sentenced two brothers to fifteen and twenty-five year prison sentences for a brutal murder they committed in February 2009, because their victim, “Had nice boots.” The murder of Marek Medynski by 28-year-old Tomasz and his 16-year-old younger brother Ryszard M. was the culmination of an escalating crime spree lasting two months, immediately after the older of the two was released on parole in January 2009.

They began by mugging a young man for his mobile phone. Then they beat up a drinking companion who bored them; after repeatedly kicking him, they watched as he rolled into a freezing river, leaving him to his fate. A young man was then beaten up for no apparent reason ...
