Europride 2010 hits Warsaw
Thousands of gay rights activists from all around Europe are expected to hit the capital this weekend to take part in the last few days of the annual ‘Europride’ festival.
While a number of cities, including London, Madrid, Amsterdam and Zurich have hosted the event in the past, it is the first time that the festival has been held behind the former Iron Curtain and organisers believe it signals a major step forward for equal rights in Poland.
“Approximately fifteen thousand people are set to participate in this weekend’s events, according to an application presented to the authorities,” said Magdalena Lan of Warsaw’s city hall.
