A man has been arrested for leaving his dog to suffocate to death in his car.

The Chihuahua was left for five hours in temperatures of around 50 degrees Celsius by its owner Piotr Kopacz, 52, while he went off to sunbathe.

Car park attendants at the Mielno beach resort spotted the pet but despite attempts to save it, it was too late.
Police arrested Kopacz as he returned to his vehicle and he now faces animal cruelty charges.
