The new laws aim to protect children
New laws have been introduced this week aimed at giving more help to children who suffer at the hands of violent parents.
According to Miroslaw Katna, President of the National Committee of Protection of the Rights of Children, the key objection of the legislation is to prohibit the smacking of kids as a punishment in the home and offer more protection to victims who feel they have to flee from their families.
Katna also points out that authorities must now ensure that victims are offered free medical care - something that was not always easy to obtain in the past.
