Poland held a minute’s remembrance on Sunday for those killed during the Warsaw Uprising 65 years ago.
An estimated 200,000 lost their lives during the struggle, in which the home army attempted to liberate the nation’s capital from the Nazis, whilst waiting for Soviet forces.
Ex-German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder attended the event, stating, “I am honoured to have been invited here. This is a very noble gesture towards a country which has brought a lot of pain to Poland by the war it started.”
“The Warsaw Uprising is part of our continent’s drive to freedom... and liberation from Nazism.” ...
