“The destruction is enormous. It’s like a war zone,”
Poland’s year of cataclysmic events continued this week with yet more flash floods bringing misery and destruction to the south of the country. Worst hit was the picturesque town of Bogatynia, where 200-year-old homes were washed away in moments. At its peak the water covered almost the entire town, reaching upstair floors in some places.Three people died during the floods, and a fourth fatality is currently being investigated. Roads and infrastructure were so severely damaged that for a while Bogatynia was totally cut off, then later could only be accessed via the Czech Republic.
