Doctors are currently tending to a young boy who is critically ill in hospital with organ failure after being inadvertently fed poisoned mushrooms by his mother.

The six-year old, known as Tomek, was forced to undergo a liver transplant on Tuesday after eating the deadly Amanita fungus which damaged and destroyed several of his major organs.

But after a few agonising days with the entire country praying for him to emerge from his coma, signs are beginning to look increasingly positive.

“At the moment he is responding to stimuli, for example to voices. He is opening his eyes slightly if you talk to him. But the whole process may take a few days,” said Pawel Trzcinski, a spokesman ...
