Police retrieved the unprimed grenade peacefully
A man clutching a grenade was arrested outside the Presidential Palace in an apparent attempt to scare demonstrators protecting a controversial cross erected in memory of those killed in the Smolensk disaster.
The 60-year-old Warsaw resident was taken away by police after he had allegedly approached the self-styled “defenders of the cross” and asked them if they were afraid. He then brandished the grenade, which prompted the demonstrators to call the police. At least three people said that they thought their lives were in danger. The grenade was later discovered to be a dud.
A police search of the man’s home found an air rifle, ammunition and parts of a gun.
