Oleg Kovalyov, the Governor of Russia’s Ryazan Oblast, has praised Polish firefighters for their part in helping extinguish the region’s recent forest fires.

In total 159 firefighters and 45 vehicles were sent to help, despite resources being stretched by Poland’s heavy floods.

“Your help was important and more than contributed to the strengthening of relations between our countries,” said Kovalyov, who presented them with honorary degrees and gifts.

“Nature does surprises us. If you could strike a balance between our fires and your rain, then everything would be fine.” ...
