Lodz’s much-vaunted five star Hilton hotel is in serious trouble, and one star has already fallen off the planned building, leaving it with only four. The building has been hit by a series of planning problems and the global economic crisis, which has led to construction not even starting, when it is supposed to be already complete.This is all very different to when the city sold the plot in 2007 for PLN 18 mln, as the then president Jerzy Kropownicki exclaimed, “This is the happiest day of the year! We’ll be able, here in Lodz, to organise international conferences, world and European championships. Finally the moaning that we don’t have a decent hotel here will end.”
