Last weekend saw a festival of speed in Warsaw, as a large part of the capital was barricaded off and turned into a racing track.
Warsaw police this week managed to arrest two young men specialising in defrauding elderly women out of their savings by pretending to be related to them – usually saying they are a grandson. In this case, one of the thieves called a 95-year-old, claiming to be her grandson Jozef, saying he needed PLN 60,000 and would be sending his friend ‘Adrian’ around to help her with the formalities at the bank.The woman managed to pay out only a third of that sum, but the two took it anyway, but were shortly after apprehended by police. Officers then assisted the elderly lady in paying the money safely back into her account.
