Komorowski hailed the achievements of Europe since WWII
President Bronislaw Komorowski hailed the development and achievements of the European Union in a speech to commemorate the start of Second World War.
Speaking at Westerplatte, where the German battleship Schleswig-Holstein fired the very first shots of the war on September 1, 1939, the president said that the place was not only important for Poland but also for the rest of Europe.
“The experience of the war, and that of Westerplatte, gave rise to a determination to build a new and better Europe where neighbours do not need to fear each other, where the forces of integration along with a common cause made us feel safer,” said Mr Komorowski, nailing his colours to the EU mast.
