Opting for annulment

The last two years have seen a boom in the number of annulments taking place across Poland.

Despite lengthy legal procedures, it seems that an increasing number of Poles are deciding upon this route as a way of officially ending their marriage.

Approximately 3,500 requests are filled each year to courts across the nation, however this figure almost tripled in 2009, with a record-smashing 10,000 separate cases filed to a total of 40 courts.

Unlike a divorce, annulment declares the marriage null and void, generally rendering it invalid, as if the marriage had never taken place.
