Henryka Krzywonos has accused Jaroslaw Kaczynski of damaging Solidarity’s legacy
The absence of Lech Walesa and bitter arguments and squabbles overshadowed events to mark the 30th anniversary of the rise of Solidarity.
Mr Walesa, who led Solidarity in its historic showdown with the communist state in 1980, decided to stay away, explaining that he was too tired, although he added that he considered the current incarnation of Solidarity as too political.
“I don’t intend to attend. We struggled and we achieved democracy. So then I proposed that Solidarity finishes with politics,” he said. “But it continues to be political, instead of occupying itself with trade union issues.”
