The surgery was the first of its kind in Poland
Vets have carried out emergency surgery to save the life of a hedgehog after she was hit by a car - the first operation of its kind in Poland.
The animal, along with her litter of babies, was rushed into a veterinary clinic by the driver in the south-eastern city of Przemysl who pleaded that the animal be saved so that she could bring up her young.
The incident occurred as the mother tried to lead her children across a busy road but was hit by the on-coming car. The driver found her a few moments later trying to make her way back to her offspring and decided he would try to save it.
