Szczesny repaid Wenger's faith with a great performance
Wojciech Szczesny, the second of Arsenal’s Polish keepers, got a chance to shine in the Carling Cup tie with Newcastle this Wednesday evening, and kept a clean sheet as the Gunners ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.
Prior to the match Szczesny had given a bullish interview to Sky Sports, criticising his manager, “Despite what Arsene Wenger said before the start of the season, he seems to have forgotten I’m in his squad. I’m not interested in being the team’s third keeper. I want to be number one. But no one at Arsenal is brave enough to back me. If you want to win top honours, you’ve got to play the best players, not the oldest ones.”
