Squabbles within Law and Justice over the future of the party are threatening to escalate into civil war ahead of local elections on November 21 following the sacking of two leading moderates.
Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, a Law and Justice (PiS) MP and one of the two possible contenders to succeed Jaroslaw Kaczynski, if he stepped down from the leadership, was sacked along with Elzbieta Jakubiak by the party’s political committee.
“They were thrown out because they were threatening to harm the party in the local election campaigns,” said Mariusz Blaszcak, head of PiS’s political committee. “The party will not tolerate anyone who undermines its interests.”
