A hospital in the western town of Miedzyrzecz was burned down after a patient in an oxygen tent sparked up a cigarette.

The lighter ignited the oxygen and staff were forced to carried the badly-burned man to safety as the flames began to make their way through the building.

“I heard a massive explosion and a scream,” said visitor Dawid Rosolak. “I ran over and saw a man lying on the floor and then the whole room began to fill with black smoke.”

All the patients were evacuated to safety, but according to fire brigade spokesman Szymon Winnicki, it was only through fast-acting staff that the situation was not worse. ...
