Police, far-right demonstrators and anti-fascist campaigners played a violent game of cat and mouse through the streets of Warsaw on November 11, providing a sour note to the pomp and circumstance of official celebrations.
As President Komorowski led formal ceremonies to mark Poland’s independence hundreds of ultra-nationalist demonstrators from the Radical Camp and the All Polish Youth took to the streets around the Royal Castle only to be met by a larger counter-demonstration and hundreds of police, intent on keeping the two parties apart.
