Police have come under fire following Biedron's arrest
A prominent gay rights activist has complained of police brutality following his arrest during clashes that marred independence day celebrations on November 11 in Warsaw.
Robert Biedron, president of the Polish Campaign Against Homophobia and a member of Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), claims that he was assaulted by three officers in a police van, held in detention without charge and subjected to psychological abuse.
“I was held by the police for 20 hours and during that time they didn’t give us anything to eat, while they played with the food that was designated for us,” he said. “They even drank the detainees’ water. I had never expected such torture.”
