Tusk's PO party cruised to an easy victory
Civic Platform cruised to an easy victory in local elections seen as a judgement on the government’s performance ahead of next year’s general election.
After all the votes had been counted Civic Platform (PO), led by Donald Tusk, the prime minister, won 39.6 percent of the seats in 16 regional councils, while its great rival Law and Justice (PiS) took 25.1 percent. The other winners on the night were the Polish People’s Party (PSL), the junior partner in the governing coalition, which scooped 16.1 percent and the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) that pulled in 15.1.
