A Gdansk hospital conducted dozens of illegal plastic surgery operations, one of which may have left a Swedish woman with brain damage, it has been revealed.

Health authorities in the coastal city have learnt that 78 patients went under the knife at the Pomeranian Traumatology Centre between 2008-2010 for operations such as breast enlargement despite the hospital having no commercial licence to perform the procedures.

Jerzy Karpinski, chief provincial medical officer, said the “hospital had blatantly broken all the rules and safety standards and put its patients’ lives and health at risk”.
