PKP will benefit from the EU's funding
PKP Intercity, the group responsible for long-distance passenger trains, is set to receive around PLN 2.8 bln in state budget subsidies over the next 10 years.
The funding, the contract for which is due to be signed sometime next year, will be used to help finance more commercially unpopular routes, such as those to smaller towns and villages around the country.
In addition to the state funding, the EU Infrastructure and Environment Operational programme, a programme aimed at helping to improve Poland’s infrastructure in order to make the country a more attractive prospect to outside investors, has set aside approximately PLN 800 mln to help with the upgrading of wagons and coaches. ...
