Germany is trying to persuade Poland to join 'the euro club'
German Chancellor Angela Merkal has been attempting to persuade Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to drop the Zloty and join the euro currency.
According to PolskiRadio, Czech daily Lidove Noviny reported that the Chancellor tried to tempt Czech PM Petr Necas during his August trip to Berlin and has now been repeating her antics with Poland’s PM - more than likely during his recent brief visit to Berlin last week.
The paper also reported if Poland and the Czech Republic were accepted into the euro, it would only show that “the days when the eurozone was a prestigious club with strict rules of admission were over”.
