Butchers’ shelves may soon resemble shops from the Communist era
Meat eaters face lean times with a walk out by sanitary vets threatening to cut supplies to butchers across the country.
The vets, who oversee the slaughter of animals for consumption, went on strike Friday over a pay dispute, warning that the industrial action will continue for the foreseeable future.
Without the vets at work no meat will receive the necessary certificates marking it fit for human consumption, and that could result in butcher’s shelves becoming bare.
“Without a veterinary certificate no meat will get to the consumer,” said Tadeusz Jakubowski, from the National Veterinary Council, adding the strike will also affect other animal products.
