A group of engineers from UK are teaming up with the Royal Air Force in this year in order to excavate a long-forgotten escape tunnel from the Second World War.
The tunnel, which was dug alongside three more well-known tunnels, ‘Tom’, ‘Dick’ and ‘Harry’, is located close to the western town of Zagan at the former Stalag Luft III allied prisoner of war camp.
Although numerous books and films have brought the story to a wide audience (namely ‘The Great Escape’ starring Steve McQueen), extremely little is known about the fourth tunnel ‘George’, but that is all about to change.
