Allegations that the late president and his wife were under surveillance sours relations further between the two main parties
Law and Justice politicians have spoken of a scandal of “Watergate” sized proportions after allegations surfaced that President Lech Kaczynski was subjected to illegal surveillance.
Citing leaked documents, Law and Justice (PiS) claimed that the former president and his wife were spied on by the ABW, Poland’s internal security agency, while on a state visit to Georgia in 2008.
“What has happened is overwhelming. This affair is on the same scale as the Watergate scandal,” one PiS politician was quoted by Newsweek, and as a reflection of their anger and concern, PiS officials made a formal request to prosecutors to investigate the matter.
