Silesian coal mines are experiencing a shortage of workers – something that seemed impossible just a year or two ago, local daily Dziennik Zachodni reported this week.

Silesian coal mines are experiencing a shortage of workers – something that seemed impossible just a year or two ago, local daily Dziennik Zachodni reported this week. The main shortages are among qualified workers, and former miners are not interested in coming back to work underground, a spokesman for mine operator Kompania Węglowa told the paper. Ironically, several years ago the government financed a special programme to get miners to leave the industry.
