PM Tusk has acted after seeing popularity ratings for both himself and his party fall recently
The governing Civic Platform party purged nearly 300 activists from its ranks as it wrestled with a slump in popularity and rumours of divisions and discontent in the organisation.
Andrzej Wyrobiec, Civic Platform’s (PO) secretary general explained that an audit carried out after last year’s local elections found that many of the activists had links to other parties and therefore had to go.
The decision to expel the 300 came just hours after 37 members from the Swietokrzyska region got the boot for the same reason, with Marzena Okly-Drewnowiicz, the local party leader, saying that “we could not tolerate a lack of loyalty”.
