Over PLN 2 mln was shared out in bonuses
Head of Poland’s Central Statistics Office (GUS) Jozef Olenski has been sacked after it was revealed that over PLN 2 mln of government money was paid into employees’ pockets.
According to daily Rzeczpospolita, PLN 2.3 mln was divvied up between 67 workers at the beginning of the month instead of being spent on 2011’s national census.
Deputy Head Janusz Witkowski will now take over as acting head of GUS, it was announced earlier this week. Mr. Witkowski, a specialist in the field of social issues and demographics, has worked for the department since the 1990’s and according to GUS spokesperson Wieslaw Lagodzinski, is more than capable of taking on the role.
