An environmental campaign calling for people to refuse having their shopping packed in foil bags, initiated by Law and Justice city councilman Krzysztof Piątkowski, appears to have taken off in the city, at one time one of the most environmentally damaged in the country. Major supermarket chains such as Tesco, Real, Carrefour and Leclerc have also joined in the “Day Without Foil Bags”, providing their stores with biodegradable packaging.
Many smaller stores did not give plastic bags to their customers unless they asked for them.
