The painting was stolen during WWII
A piece of art stolen from Poland during WWII has been returned after being discovered in Russia.
The ‘Dziewczyna z Golebiem’ (‘Girl with a Dove’) painting by eighteenth-century French painter Antoine Pesne was one of hundreds taken during the war but has since been returned to Poznan after the Ministry of Culture received information from an art shop in Moscow.
“In the pre-War collection, it was regarded as a classic piece of work. Even today it is a fantastic addition to a collection of French art,” said Piotr Michalowski, a spokesman for Poznan’s National Museum. ...
