Braga progress to the next round after knocking out Lech

Lech Poznan became the latest in a long line of Polish sides to be eliminated from European competition immediately following the winter break. Despite taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg of the tie against Sporting Braga, the Railwaymen were unable to hold on, conceding two goals in a sloppy first half where they were comprehensively outplayed. Braga go on to face Liverpool, a tie that Lech can now only dream of playing.

Prior to the match neither side had much cause for optimism, Braga coming off three straight defeats, Lech having struggled for any sort of consistency for months and ring rusty following the long winter pause. Conditions in the Braga stadium were markedly different to ...
