School closures cause outrage

Critics claim that closures now will mean a lack of places for the next generation of students.
Teachers’ unions and the education ministry have clashed after it was revealed that hundreds of schools across the country are facing the axe this year.
Figures from the education ministry show that 330 schools have been earmarked for closure in 2011, and are set to join the ranks of about 3,000 closed down since 2006.
The education ministry said that the closures are due to the falling number of children in Poland. Over the last five years, according to official figures, the number of school pupils has crashed by 411,000, leaving, apparently, classrooms empty and schools under-populated.
