The removal of the Smolensk remembrance candles and items has caused uproar in some quarters
Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski was left fuming after street cleaners blitzed a pavement memorial to his dead brother and other victims of the Smolensk crash, binning candles, photographs and wreaths.
The street cleaners moved in late at night and cleared away the flowers and dozens of candles that were burning outside the presidential palace in memory of President Lech Kaczynski and the 95 others who died in the disaster.
“I cannot find the words appropriate to describe the culture of the people who did this,” said a seething Mr Kaczynski, who still wears a black mourning tie, adding that he wanted to quiz the prime minister on who was responsible for this “shameful” ...
