Authorities are now looking for the painting's (Paysage arbore) owner
Police are battling to solve a mysterious case of an unclaimed PLN 700,000 Renoir painting and discover why somebody decided to stick the valuable work of art in the post.
Customs officials fished the painting out of the post last year as it made its way to the United States courtesy of the at-times dubious care of Poczta Polska, but it was only in mid-March that experts at Warsaw’s National Museum authenticated it as a genuine piece of work by the famed French impressionist.
But despite the publicity surrounding the painting and its appearance, so far no one has come forward to lay claim to the masterpiece.
