The president has received criticism for the bonuses
Bronislaw Komorowski awarded himself a hefty bonus as one of his last acts as parliamentary speaker despite the government telling the country that money was tight and cuts had to be made.
In revelations carried in newspaper Super Express, during his last day as speaker following his victory in July’s presidential election, Mr Komorowski approved himself a PLN 22,000 bonus, as well as generous sums to the various deputy speakers who make up lower house’s presidium.
Deputies Ewa Kierzkowska, Marek Kuchcinski and Stefan Niesiolowski got amounts ranging between PLN 32,000 and PLN 50,000, which contrasts favourably to the average monthly salary in Poland of PLN 3,360.
