The decision to bury the presidential couple in Wawel still provokes debate
Animosity over the resting place of President Lech Kaczynski and his wife returned to the fore with rival demonstrations taking to the streets on the first anniversary of the late presidential couple’s funeral.
In a demonstration organised by the right-wing newspaper Gazeta Polska, over 1,000 Kaczynski supporters turned out in Krakow’s Old Market square to show their support for Lech and Maria Kaczynski, and to call for the “truth” to be known about the Smolensk disaster.
Earlier in the day a few dozen counter-demonstrators gathered outside Wawel Castle, the resting place of the presidential couple, to show their disapproval of the decision to inter the dead president there.
