Lech in final – finally!

Lech Poznan qualified for the final of the Polish Cup in Bielsko-Biala this Tuesday, defeating a spirited Podbieskidzie 3-2. It’s a cliché that football is a game of two halves – this was more like a game of three-quarters and a quarter as Lech, and manager Bakero, stared into the abyss for 75 minutes, going two goals down, before finally showing the gulf in class.

The cup probably represents Lech’s last chance of European football next season, but Podbieskidzie had already scalped Wisla Krakow in the last round. “We hope Lech leave the field, maybe not defeated, but very unhappy,” quipped the Bielsko side’s chairman, knowing a goalless draw would suffice, following the one-a ...
