Vicious dogs such as American-Staffordshire Terriers are extremely common in Poland
A two-year-old boy had to undergo reconstructive surgery after suffering horrific injuries in a dog attack.
The boy from near Zakopane was playing in his garden when he strayed into his neighbour’s yard. Getting too close to a chained dog, the Alsatian-cross seized the infant and managed to inflict severe facial injuries before being pulled off.
“We’ve had to carry out a number of operations to reconstruct the facial structures, including the nose, eye socket and surrounding muscles,” said Professor Andrzej Prokurat, head of surgery at the paediatric clinic in Krakow where the boy was taken.
