The Polish FA has decided to return to amateur referees in order to cut costs
In a mind-boggling move, the Polish FA (PZPN) is set to get rid of the six, full-time professional referees they currently have and, as of next season, all Polish officials will return to being amateurs. The shock move is a result of stringent cost-cutting measures at the PZPN and disillusionment among Ekstraklasa clubs with what they see as substandard refereeing.
The six full-timers are coming in for criticism that they are untouchable and cannot be demoted for poor handling of matches.
