al-Qaeda leader bin Laden was shot dead by US troops
There have been a number of reports in the Polish press this week suggesting that Poland played a major role in locating terrorist Osama bin Laden.
The al-Qaeda leader, generally regarded as the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks, was shot dead by US troops after being found in a compound near the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.
According to Polski Radio, the information that led to the locating of the safe house was obtained while Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Faraj al-Libi (both alleged senior members of the terrorist organisation) were being held near the Szczytno-Szymany airport in the north-east of Poland.
