There are fears that Polish workers may flock to Germany now the borders are open
This week saw both Germany and Austria open their borders to Poland and the rest of the countries which joined the EU in 2004.
The lifting of the barriers on May 1 means that citizens from the latest batch of European Union states are now free to seek employment in either country without having to apply for a work permit beforehand.
Austria and Germany were the last two nations to abolish their borders, both choosing to keep limits on work places for seven years (the maximum amount of time allowed by the EU).
Polish MEP Danuta Hubner has stated that this will now offer a great opportunity for specialist workers or entrepreneurs, but could have a negative effect on Polish enterprises ...
