Mr Ostrega received only PLN 39,000 despite his prison ordeal
The police union has condemned the compensation given to a senior policeman who languished for nine months in prison cell with a serial rapist on false corruption charges.
Wieslaw Budek, an official with the NSZZ Police Union, savaged the poor award of PLN 39,000 handed out to Artur Ostrega, a former police officer who spent nine months in custody, lost his job and still suffers health problems as a result of his ordeal.
“The prosecutor’s lack of professionalism broke the man’s career, and the court giving him a little less than PLN 40,000 shows how highly this country values its police officers,” said a sarcastic Mr Budek.
