Mr Walesa is said to be in a stable condition
Solidarity hero Lech Walesa has been taken into hospital with a high fever and gastrointestinal problems.
The former president and freedom fighter’s health has been of concern for some years but while he is thought to be in a good condition, doctors are remaining tight-lipped.
“We can confirm that Mr Walesa was brought into hospital and that his condition is stable,” Tadeusz Jedrzejczak of Gdansk’s Medical University told TVN24. “We hope that we can resolve this and that he will be free to leave sometime soon.”
Mr Walesa’s health has deteriorated over the last few years and in 2007 it was announced that he was ready to undergo surgery for a heart transplant.
