The construction of the Warsaw-Berlin road has been thrown into chaos by the withdrawal of the Chinese
Vital construction work on the A2 Poznan-Warsaw motorway came to halt after the Chinese firm building the road walked away from the contract, delivering an embarrassing blow to the government’s preparations for the 2012 European football championship.
The Chinese Overseas Engineering Company (COVEC) abandoned work on two stretches of the A2, totalling 50 kilometres, citing problems with getting paid by its contractors and sudden increases in the price of raw materials.
