Eight people died and a further 10 were injured this week after a minibus was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry.

According to TVN24, the accident took place in the early hours of the morning near the village of Chrzczonowice in Lodzkie, although, as yet, no official details for the cause of the crash have been given.

Preliminary reports state that the incident occurred after the front left tyre of the goods lorry burst, forcing it to swerve into the oncoming traffic.

“The only thing we are certain of is that the lorry entered the opposite lane and struck the minibus,” said Krzysztof Kopania, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office.
