Wroclaw was selected as ‘European Capital of Culture 2016’ this week, beating off competition from the likes of Gdansk, Lublin, Warsaw and Katowice in the final round.

According to daily Fakt, the decision to vote the city was unanimous and is one that will stand Wroclaw in good stead in future years in terms of recognition and tourism.

While handing out the award, it was stressed that the city still needed to carry out a lot of work and that local authorities must begin working in order to bring it up to a strong European standard.
