The holiday weekend witnessed a high death toll on the roads
Poland’s roads saw a high death toll over the Corpus Christi weekend as more than 70 people lost their lives.
According to Polski Radio, there were a further 650 people injured in a total of 450 car accidents, with one of the main causes for the high number being drunk-driving.
Over the course of the weekend, 2,794 people were caught drunk in the driver’s seat said a spokesperson for police.
Director-General of Poland’s National Roads, Andrzej Maciejewski, said that Poland’s ‘Weekend Without Victims’ campaign (aimed at raising road-safety awareness) will only begin to make a difference after direct and systematic action over a number of years.
