Kubot: "I threw the match away"
Poland’s top men’s tennis player threw away the chance of a quarter-final appearance against Andy Murray when he contrived to blow a two set lead and two match points to lose to Spain’s Feliciano Lopez at Wimbledon this week. The Pole still had one of his best ever showings at a Grand Slam tournament, but the manner of the loss is sure to rankle for a long time.
“It’s better to play badly, poorly, but win. I threw the match away. I was so close and at the same time so far away from winning. It’s my fault, but I have to admire my rival’s resilience. You have to learn from your defeats, and I’ll try to draw conclusions from the match,” Kubot commented philosophically later ...
